Reflection
Standard III speaks to the need for teachers to stay current when it comes to technology. Teachers should be knowledgeable of many different types of educational technology in order to provide students with multiple approaches to learning. There are many types of learners so it is important that teachers employ varied methods of content delivery to appeal to them all. In addition to using technology in the classroom, teachers have the responsibility of using digital tools to connect with their students, peers, parents and community. Technology should become an integral part of how a teacher carries out his or her responsibilities in and outside of the classroom. It is imperative for teachers to maintain relationships with parents and peers and this can be carried out through technology. Teachers should use all of the digital tools at their disposal to educate and inform.
Artifact 1: Standard III focuses on the teacher utilizing technology for collaboration and communication. There are many different digital tools that a teacher can use to deliver information. An ideal format for delivering content is through video. I created a video tutorial in order to explain the functions of an online collaboration tool. This artifact exhibits the use of a digital tool to convey information. Videos provide the user with a visual representation accompanied by an audio track. A great way to share videos is by uploading them to YouTube so they are easily accessible without the need of being downloaded. By creating videos and uploading them to the web, the teacher is demonstrating fluency in technology.
Artifact 2: The online platform PowToon can be used to create animated presentations. This tool allows the teacher to present information in a creative format using technology. I created a PowToon animation to inform the user of common mistakes that are made when creating blogs and how best to avoid them. PowToon is a tool that gives the teacher complete creative control on how to convey a message. This artifact meets Standard III by giving the teacher the opportunity to communicate ideas in an effective manner. Teachers can embed PowToon presentations into their website by providing a link or uploading them to YouTube.
Artifact 3: Course websites are an invaluable tool for classroom teachers. Websites are an ideal way for teachers to collaborate and communicate with students, parents, and peers. Students can access a teacher website to obtain course materials and assignments. Websites also provide the perfect forum for discussions among students and teachers. Teachers can use websites to provide relevant information to parents such as due dates and resources that are available to help students. I developed a website in Weebly that provided access to a syllabus, links to online resources, course documents, and even assessments. This artifact relates to Standard III by giving the teacher a platform to demonstrate his or her knowledge of technology systems and to effectively communicate pertinent course information.

Teachers have a responsibility to remain innovative in their instruction. Standard III serves as a reminder to me to always stay current when it comes to available technologies. There are many digital tools in education and it is up to the teacher to be aware of what is available and how to use and implement them. I will make use of video tutorials in the future because they are an effective way to present information to students. Videos are an engaging tool that appeal to different learning styles such as visual and auditory. I can see taking advantage of PowToon and its unique and creative way of presenting content. As a teacher I have always had a website for my classes, but I never realized its potential until enrolling in this masters program. I have learned that a website is more than just a place for announcements. A course website needs to provide the user with resources that will help them to be successful. A teacher's website should be a place that encourages collaboration and fosters discussions.
